Best of the Decade: Our Gaming Editor’s Top Picks for the Best Games of the 2010s

On social media, how someone looked ten years ago has gone viral. So, if we may play off that theme here, let’s have a look at how gaming has come along since a decade ago, remarking on the best of the 2010s.

Funniest video game: “South Park: The Stick of Truth”

By far the funniest video game the 2010s produced. Hardly much of a surprise here.

Scariest video game: “Until Dawn”

A delight for those looking to catch a nice scare, and a great game in general, Until Dawn definitely put chills up players’ spines as the best of its kind throughout the decade.

Best action video game: “Saints Row 3″

Also a contender for one of the funnier games of the decade, believe it or not. Saints Row 3 is Grand Theft Auto, but better overall, albeit with slightly less of an online experience. Great overall game, with or without a friend.

Most influential video game- “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”

This game delayed the death of an entire console, expedited the sales of another, and its success inspired Nintendo to quickly get to work releasing a sequel. It ultimately was the most interactive Nintendo video game released on the Wii U, and continues to leave its mark on the Nintendo Switch to this day.

Best family video game: “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe”

Enjoyable by child and adult alike, MK8 has been an amazing game, playable for family bonding nights after a long day.

Top five games of the decade:

5. “Red Dead Redemption 2”

4. “Super Smash Bros Ultimate”

3. “Fire Emblem: Three Houses”

2. “Game of Thrones- Telltale Edition”

1. “Dying Light”

The aforementioned four games are all objectively stellar, but none were quite capable of topping this masterpiece. Amazingly, “Dying Light” was developed by Techland, a relatively small video game developing company. It has an unbeatable experience on both the single and multiplayer spectrums. The company frequently added new, notably free, things to the game and had a post-game DLC which was essentially another game in its own. With Dying Light 2 on the way, it’s quite possible that 2029’s “best of the last decade” will include Dying Light 2. It does, however, have quite a lot to live up to here!
