A Fun Little Side Quest | “The Mandalorian” Season 2, Episode 2 Review

As America continues to navigate this absolute nail biter of an election, if there’s anything we can count on for 40 minutes of welcome relief, it’s “The Mandalorian.” After a very good opening episode, this show shifts into low gear, telling a nice, contained small story in which Mando (Pedro Pascal) returns from his conquering of the Krayt Dragon to Mos Eisley in order to get any leads as to where he can find any other Mandalorians. Local hangar manager Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) gives him one almost immediately, but in exchange for the info, Mando must transport a froglike alien to their location without the use of hyperdrive, which is extremely risky.

They are quickly intercepted by two New Republic X-Wings, one of whose pilots is played by one of the show’s executive producers, Dave Filoni, who was also in an episode last season. It turns out Mando has an outstanding warrant, so he makes a break for it, resulting in him crash landing on an icy planet home to giant, alien spiders that Baby Yoda aggravates.

Definitely not the episode for you if you have Arachnophobia.

In a way, this almost feels like a filler episode, but there’s plenty of great “Star Wars” moments in here that will keep your attention. And unlike this season’s opener, which was full of turns and great character moments, Episode 2 is relatively straightforward; Mando crashes and needs to get off the planet to continue his quest to find other Mandalorians. The end.

I probably wouldn’t be talking about this episode at all if it wasn’t for the show’s weekly release schedule, and unless there are some outright awful episodes this season, this could easily become my least favorite episode this season.

But I have to say, the effects on the alien spiders looked amazing.

“The Mandalorian” Season 2, Episode 2, gets a 7/10

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

    1. Pretty much. All you need to know for Episode 3 is Mando is transporting a froglike alien to a planet where there might be other Mandalorians. Though I will say, while Episode 2 does have creepy spider aliens that give off strong “Alien” vibes, the episode is pretty tame.
