Zemo Steals The Show | “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” Season 1: Episode 3 “Power Broker” Review

It’s hard to believe that this show is already almost half over.

Episode 3 focuses on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), the titular Falcon and Winter Soldier respectively, as they bust Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) out of prison, who takes them to the island nation of Madripoor, where the scientist who made the super soldier serum supposedly is. Madripoor is a lawless nation controlled by the shadowy Power Broker, who apparently funded the creation of the new serum.

It also has no extradition, hence we meet Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who is still on the run from her crimes she committed years ago helping Steve Rogers — who we now know is her great-uncle — and company. However, unlike Bucky, she was never pardoned, in part because she was not a superpowered Avenger. She agrees to help them in exchange for a presidential pardon, and it’s unclear whether or not we’ll see her again.

But the real star of this episode is Zemo, who seems to be genuinely enjoying himself after being in prison for years. We also get to see the Baron part of his name in action, as he’s rich, and serves as a key resource for Sam and Bucky. The three have common interests for once, as they are all against letting people make more super soldiers. Brühl does a great job being both consistent with his character from “Captain America: Civil War”, while also have fun being evil.

This is a pretty decent episode clearly laying the groundwork for something bigger.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” Season 1: Episode 3 “Power Broker” gets a 7/10

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
