“Star Wars: Andor” Season 2 Predictions  | Column from the Editor

Now that “Star Wars: Andor” Season 1 has wrapped up, here are my predictions for Season 2.

We’ll see more of Kino Loy

We last saw Kino Loy (Andy Serkis), the imprisoned supervisor who helped Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) escape from the prison complex of Narkina 5, hanging by the exit of the complex overlooking a body of water, admitting that he cannot swim.

It’s a tragic turn of events for a character that stole the show. However, I don’t think his story will end there, partially because the character is incredibly popular and partially because during his time on the complex, he has earned the loyalty and respect of many of his fellow prisoners.

I think someone helped him off the base off-screen, and I think we will see him again most likely as a rebel — after his time on Narkina 5, it’s one of the few paths forward for him.

Syril Karn will work for the Imperial Security Bureau

Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) is treated poorly by the Empire, but remains loyal to them despite it as he has a strong desire to maintain order and deliver justice to those who he thinks deserves it. Throughout the show, he thinks he is chasing after a dangerous murderer, and he is partially right, though there is more to Cassian’s story.

In Episode 12, he saves ISB supervisor Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), who has the power to formally hire him for the Empire, which she absolutely should do. I think the two could be a formidable pair, though I do think that the Empire will betray Syril in the end.

Connecting with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Season 2 will be the show’s last, and as such, I’m expecting it to somehow connect its story to Cassian’s journey in “Rogue One,” in a way serving as a prequel to a prequel. This might be just a small flash forward scene in the final episode, or it might build up to the film’s plot throughout.

I do think that we will see very few “Rogue One” characters in Season 2. Saw Gerrera, as well as the KX-series droid and the shoretroopers that arrest Cassian on Niamos I think are the only cameos the show can get away with — the main protagonists in the film pretty much all meet for the first time in it.

Luthen Rael will get caught

Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), the architect of the early rebellion, openly admits that he is fighting for the fall of the Empire that he will never see, as he is aware that he is most likely not going to make it out of this conflict alive.

I think we’ll see his demise in Season 2 — I don’t see any other way for his character journey to go. The Empire already has a recording of his voice and visuals of his ship from his clash with a Star Destroyer this season, and Dedra’s primary objective is to find him and take him down.

With Syril, I think she’ll succeed, but I’m not sure if she’ll know what to do once she’s caught him. The rebellion will outlive Luthen and the Empire is playing a losing game of control that requires constant oppression and constant strength. It’s not a conflict the Empire can win long-term, and I think there’s a change that Dedra will realize that.
