The MCU is having quite a week, with the release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in theaters, and the long-awaited return of a fan-favorite character in this week’s “Hawkeye” episode.
Spoiler warning, but if you’re this deep into the show, you shouldn’t need it. Still, you’ve been warned, so make sure to go see this week’s ep[isode if you haven’t yet.
This week picks up from last week, where Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) encounter a Black Widow agent named Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who is the sister of Clint’s late partner, Natasha Romanoff. Yelena believes that Clint killed her sister, and was additionally hired to carry out a hit on him. Kate gets in her way, and convinces Yelena that her employer is not someone she wants to be working with, leading to her revealing that her mother and the crime boss Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio).
The episode itself is painfully average and might work better had this show not adopted a weekly release schedule. Kingpin’s revelation will make hardcore “Daredevil” fans incredibly happy, though it is dissapointing that the show has only one episode left in Season 1 to use him.
Hopefully the finale can impress, because this show as a whole has been fine, but hasn’t been anything special.
“Hawkeye” Season 1: Episode 5 “Ronin” gets a 6/10
